Webinar

Climate resilient natural resources management:

Simulation-based approaches, forest insurances and climate services

February 9, 2026

This webinar covered climate change adaptation in forests, focusing on current insurance options in Finland. We discussed modelling weather-related risks to forests and agriculture, and introduced new insurance concepts for wind and wildfire damage. Participants also shared their climate service needs for improved risk management.

PIISA and Precilience projects address climate resilience challenges in forests and agriculture from complementary angles. The projects develop and test climate risk and adaptation solutions in practice, assess their potential, and innovate insurance/finance tools to scale them.

The webinar was organised jointly by the Horizon Europe projects PIISA and Precilience.

PRECILIENCE (Precision climate resilience for agriculture and forestry sectors in the European boreal regions) is a Horizon Europe funded project (ID: 101157094) demonstrating proven solutions for climate resilience in agriculture and forestry. Collaborating with stakeholders regionally, we find the most relevant risks and suitable solutions to co-create impactful climate adaptation portfolios for 11 focal regions in Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Norway and Sweden. This supports systemic transformation towards climate resilient societies (https://www.precilience.eu/)

PIISA (Piloting Innovative Insurance Solutions for Adaptation) is a Horizon Europe funded project working to reduce the climate change adaptation gap (i.e. the difference between the recognized need for adaptation and the actually implemented adaptation) by developing and piloting new insurance and risk-sharing concepts (https://piisa-project.eu/).
