Forest health and resilience in the era of climate change
Stakeholder field trip
22 - 25 September, Estonia
Join Precilience team of forest pathology and forest management researchers for a field trip to Estonia to explore forest damages that is less frequent in the Nordic countries, and develop skills in identifying e.g. Lecanosticta acicola and Dothistroma septosporum in the field.
Co-organised with the SNS-funded network TolerantTree, the excursion will offer a platform for discussing forest management and regeneration approaches, including continuous cover forestry (CCF) and mixed-species planting, and their role in supporting long-term forest health and resilience.

Arrival in Tallinn. Accommodation at the Mercure Hotel*, located next to the airport.
23 September
9:00 Departure from the Mercure Hotel; drive to the State Forest Management Centre (RMK) Kullenga Seed Centre
11:00 Excursion in Kullenga,: birch and black alder seed orchards, birch progeny trials. (Host: Aivo Vares, Plant Production Manager at RMK)
13:00 Lunch and coffee in Kullenga
14:00 Excursion in the Avispea progeny trial with Swedish spruce and pine material. The focus is damage patterns (Kateryna Davydenko/Malin Elfstrand).

8:30 Departure from Rakvere Aqva SPA parking lot.
9:00 Visit nearby forest stands with different management histories, focusing to management decisions and regeneration success, (Jürgen Aosaar, Mikko Buht, Rein Drenkhan).
12:30 Lunch and coffee in Tarumaa. Lunch packages and water provided according to dietary preferences.
13:00 Excursion in Tarumaa progeny trial, focus to local Estonian pine, spruce, birch trials, (Tiit Maaten).
16:00 Departure from Tarumaa to Tallinn
19:00 Arrival in Tallinn

Participation is free of charge. Travel expenses are the responsibility of each participant. Early-career researchers (ECRs) may apply for a TolerantTree travel grant to cover their costs.
