Webinar: Facing Climate Risks in Agriculture and Forestry in Northern Europe
Climate change is already reshaping how we produce food and manage forests in Northern Europe. While the challenges are global, their impacts are often local. Regional ecosystems, weather patterns, and management practices all influence how risks emerge and how they can be addressed.
Join us for a focused webinar, “Facing Climate Risks in Agriculture and Forestry in Northern Europe”, where we’ll explore how climate-related changes are unfolding across the region and how farmers, forest managers, and researchers are responding. With insights from the Swedish Meteorological and Hydrological Institute and Natural Resources Institute Finland, the session will highlight scientific findings, a risk-based framework and practical stories for adaptation.
Expect three short presentations, followed by an open discussion and Q&A for your chance to ask questions and engage directly with the experts.

Webinar speakers
Dr Karoliina Rimhanen
Research Scientist, LUKE
Dr. Karoliina Rimhanen holds a PhD in Agroecology from the University of Helsinki (2016) and specialises in resilience and climate change adaptation within agriculture. With extensive experience in researching sustainability in agricultural and food systems, Dr. Rimhanen has worked across Europe and Eastern Africa, employing mixed methods research that integrates both quantitative and qualitative approaches.
Her expertise includes participatory methods, stakeholder co-creation, and systems thinking, with a particular focus on resilience and adaptation storylines.
In the webinar, Karoliina shares insights on the creation and use of climate risk narratives and presents an example storyline developed as part of the work.
Nadia Testani Researcher, University of Buenos Aires & LUKE
Nadia Testani is a PhD researcher at the University of Buenos Aires and a researcher at LUKE. In Precilience, she helps build a risk framework and analyse past climate impacts on forestry and agriculture, and co-develops an adaptation portfolio for the project regions.
She focuses on climate risks in agriculture and believes in bottom-up, locally grounded approaches to climate science. Nadia is part of the YESS community and the WCRP’s My Climate Risk initiative.
Dr Gustav Strandberg Researcher, SMHI
Gustav Strandberg is a researcher at the Swedish Meteorological and Hydrological Institute (SMHI) and PhD in atmospheric science. His research interests ranges from the interaction between the land surface and the atmosphere (also in pre-historic climates) to future scenarios and descriptions of regional climate change.
Another line of research concerns how to make climate information useful to society, and how to tailor the information towards different sectors such as energy or agriculture.
Olli-Pekka Ruponen Agrologist, farmer & advisor
Agrologist, farmer, independent advisor, rural entrepreneur and learner of new things. The main themes in his consulting work are operations related to arable crops and digital agriculture.
His area of expertise is autumn-sown plants and the diversification of crop rotations they bring. The possibilities of precision farming and future planning are also close to his heart.
He also gives sparing help in other matters for primary production, as well as in using industry networks.
